Focus Interview: Liz McNamara, Marketing Director, GetTheLabel.com

Online fashion retailer Getthelabel.com aims to make people happy by discounting iconic brands such as Adidas, Lipsy, Armani and converse.  With Black Friday just around the corner, marketing director Liz McNamara talks us through how the retailer will continue putting the ‘love’  in pullovers, the ‘yes’ in polyester and the pennies back in your pocket!

What is your name and what do you do?

Where do you work and what does your company do?

Getthelabel.com, we’re an online only discount fashion retailer.  We offer icon brands such as Adidas, Lipsy, Armani, Converse and many more at a discount.

 What was your first ever job?

Account Executive at McCann Erickson the Advertising Agency.

Describe a typical day in life of Liz?

Once the madness of doing the school run is over, my day is typically breaks down into two parts, the first half is spent reviewing the previous day’s sales, comparing these to budget and last year, ensuring the activity in the marketing plan is in place to meet the sales numbers coming down the pipeline.  The second half of my day is taken up with meetings around new tests and initiatives we want to run, meeting existing suppliers and reviewing their performance, meeting potential new suppliers and seeing what they can bring to Getthelabel.   

What are you currently working on?

I’m ensuring all plans are in place for Black Friday and the ensuing days, and budgets for 2016….where has the year gone!

Have you done any specific preparations for Black Friday/Cyber Weekend this year?

Yes we have moved our marketing activity quite radically year on year to try to capitalise on the phenomenon that is Black Friday, I feel the UK consumer is now educated to expect discounts over this crucial trading weekend and are slower to spend until this weekend has been and gone.

Who in the retail world do you most admire and why?

Aldi.  I admire the confidence they have in pushing their non-branded equivalent product and I love the execution of their messages.  I also love how they have capitalised on how  ‘cool’  & ‘smart’ it is to shop Aldi amongst the higher demographics.

What’s the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?

Always be nice to people on the way up….you never know who you will meet on the way down!

What keeps you awake at night?

A ropey curry.  In all seriousness I want Getthelabel.com to be a success to help protect the livelihood of everyone that works there, we don’t save lives but we do help pay peoples mortgages and that means a lot to me.

What are your aims and goals for 2016-17?

To build on our mobile strategy to ensure all customers on any device get a great experience from Getthelabel.com.  Personally I might even attempt the Manchester Marathon.

If you could choose to have lunch with anyone who would it be and why?

My Grandad, Michael Daly, he died before I was born but he seemed like a great man from the stories I’ve heard and I’d love to have met the man behind the myth.
