Technology awards shortlist shows retailers leading the way

The shortlist for the BT Retail Week Technology Awards 2014 has just been announced and we’re absolutely thrilled to be in the running with our clients in two high profile categories.

In the Innovation of the Year category, we’ve made the cut with Pets at Home for the retailer’s PetPad mobile initiative.

We had Brian Scott from Pets at Home talking about the groundwork for this project at our recent Retail Unleashed event at BT Tower. Brian explained that mobile is all about cutting the umbilical cord from the back office to liberate colleagues.

For Pets at Home it has meant a step change in internal systems and processes and, ultimately, a better experience for customers. The key to the project’s success, according to Brian, was being brave and really going for it.

And in the Supply Chain and Fulfilment Excellence Award, we’re in the running for a prize with footwear retailer Charles Clinkard, for a fantastic project that saw the retailer replace nearly 90% of its supply chain systems!

The project took 10 months and covered everything from a new RF-based warehouse system to in-store kiosks. The switchover for all of this happened over a weekend, so you can imagine the tension on Monday morning. Fortunately, everything had been planned meticulously and the transition was as smooth as could be expected.

The full shortlist is packed with, as you’d expect, a host of retail heavyweights and some fantastic projects. Fingers crossed that the courage shown by both Pets at Home and Charles Clinkard in embracing new ways of working will be recognised on the night. We’ll be there to toast all the winners at the BT Retail Week Technology Awards on 11 June at the Hilton Hotel.
