Primark began reviewing its central data management strategy 18 months ago and, following a market review, selected Epicor’s AOM (Audit & Operations Management) product to be the data management hub for all store data. In parallel, Primark has implemented its first central solution with BT, an enterprise-wide transaction database which is used for returns and as the data feed to AOM.
The volumes are massive – 800,000 transactions per day from 7,500 tills in 280 stores in nine countries. Testing was conducted to scale the solution to 200 transactions per second meaning the solution is scalable for Primark’s phenomenal growth. The AOM infrastructure is hosted in the BT Dublin Data Centre which provides a resilient and scalable cloud management solution for AOM.
With AOM, Primark has a much stronger centralised system to control its store operations, provide enterprise reporting and drive in-store improvements. Primark is now embarking on a project to replace its current in-store finance feeds with AOM; the next step is to implement Store 6 Cash Management and provide further downstream interfaces to other Primark systems (such as finance, loss prevention and HR).
