The sky's no longer the limit for Crabtree & Evelyn with new cloud-based point of sale

We've just installed a new cloud-based version of our Store 6.2 Point of Sale (POS) solution for Crabtree & Evelyn. That makes the international fragrance and luxury gift retailer the first in the UK to use BT's Virtual Data Centre (VDC) to run our store software. Using a VDC means Crabtree & Evelyn only pay for the processing power that they actually use – and can grow and shrink the service to meet its business needs. This ensures the optimum processing capacity is always available.

Store 6 uses touchscreens with tabbed menus for back office functions to create an easy-to-use, feature-rich POS. The new system covers 90 tills at 39 stores in the UK. It offers multichannel trading, configured to meet Crabtree & Evelyn's needs.

Tim Johnson, IT director, Crabtree & Evelyn, said: "The new systems provided by BT have been extremely well received by our staff. We're pleased to be leading the way with cloud-based POS. It gives us the flexibility to meet the needs of our customers at any time and to grow with us in the future."

Another first in PCI compliance

Crabtree and Evelyn is also the first retailer in the country to use BT's new managed, secure, end-to-end payment service designed specifically to meet the new Payment Card Industry Security Standard (PCI DSS) set out by the major payment card schemes to help protect customers against theft or fraud.

Ensuring store systems and processes meet PCI compliance is a huge legal, financial and organisational burden for retailers, not to mention the potential damage to a brand's reputation should a security system be breached. To avoid this BT supplies the hardware, software, implementation, hosting, support and training and manages it on the retailer's behalf.

Richard Lowe, CEO of BT Expedite, said: "We're convinced cloud-based POS is the future and that retailers should be moving towards using a managed payment service to simplify their operation and compliance obligations. We're delighted that Crabtree & Evelyn had the confidence in us to share our 'firsts' in both."
